PBA Honors Black History with Gospel Concert, Chapel Series

Officers of the PBA Black Student Union enjoy a meal during the Black History Month Kick-Off, February 1.

The Office of International and Multicultural Programs in the Center for Campus Connections at Palm Beach Atlantic University and the Black Student Union are planning several free activities during February in honor of Black History Month. The events are open to members of the PBA community.

On Campus Events

From 4 to 6 p.m. today, a Black History Month Kick-Off will be held on the Rinker Green. Starting at 6 p.m., a special screening of the Tyler Perry movie Madea’s Family Reunion will take place on the green.

From Feb. 6-9, Dr. Terriel Byrd, professor of urban Christian ministry and coordinator of the evening ministry program, will be the speaker for the Black History Week Chapel Series. The services will feature gospel music.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, gospel rap artist Da’ T.R.U.T.H. will perform in concert with PBA Praise in the DeSantis Family Chapel. This event is open to the public. For information, call (561) 803-2550.

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, a screening of the Tyler Perry movie Madea’s Big Happy Family will be shown at 8 p.m. in the Weyenberg Center.

PBA Unites!, a participatory event designed to celebrate diversity, will take place on campus from Feb. 20-29.

The Black History Month Finale Celebration will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 29 in the DeSantis Family Chapel.                                                                                                                                                                             

Louis Armstrong Tribute 

In honor of Black History Month PBA students, staff and faculty are invited to attend a complementary performance of  "Wonderful World: A Salute to Louis Armstrong" with special guests Tony Award Winner Lillias White and virtuoso trumpeter Longineu Parsons. You can choose from the following dates and locations:

Kravis Center for the Performing Arts: 8 p.m., February 6 and 7

Kaye Auditorium at FAU Boca Raton: 8 p.m., February 8, 10 and 11

Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College: 8 p.m., February 12
