Palm Beach Atlantic University is a member of the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA), which is composed of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II schools. The association has announced the All-ICAA teams and post season awards for 2011. Here are the Sailfish results:
PBA’s men's soccer team, which is preparing for a title defense at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament, had players named to the All-ICAA first or second team.
Sophomore striker Kenny Hogg, who has tallied 19 goals and two assists to date, was joined by junior defender Lewis Thompson and freshman defender Kendall Crouse on the All-ICAA First-Team. Thompson and Crouse were both full-time starters in the defensive backfield for head coach Jose Gomez, which has helped lead PBA to a 12-7 record
The three Sailfish players who made the Second Team are freshmen AJ Black and Michael Emert and sophomore defender, Tyler Sanders. Black collected a team-best 12 assists while scoring one goal while Emert was second in goals scored and points (nine) while adding four assists for a total of 22 points.
Sanders joins Thompson and Crouse as All-ICAA defenders from the PBA squad.
Freshman Marianne Harnes earned NCCAA All-Region honors as well as a spot on the All-ICAA Second-Team.
Harnes completes her first season at PBA leading the team in points and assists while finishing second in goals scored. Harnes tallied 11 points on five assists and three goals for the season.
Joining Harnes on the NCCAA All-Region team was PBA senior defender Alyssa DeMonte, who closed out her final season. She played in 15 of the team's 16 matches while tallying 878 minutes of field time in the defensive backfield.
The Sailfish concluded their season with a 7-8-1 record.
Sailfish head coach Bob White was named the ICAA Coach of the Year, while four Sailfish players were named to one of the three All-ICAA teams.
Sailfish junior outside-hitter Mariela Quesada was named to the All-ICAA First-Team following her spectacular second season. Senior middle-blocker Lanae Robinson was named to the All-ICAA Second-Team following her solid final campaign. Laying claim to positions on the All-ICAA third-team were sophomore right-side hitter Christina Alessi and freshman setter Becca Acevedo.
Currently preparing for the NCCAA National Tournament following a 27-3 record to date, the Fish have had a memorable season as they were ranked within the NCAA Regional rankings for the first time in program history while just missing out on a NCAA Regional Tournament bid.
