Palm Beach Atlantic University is ranked 51st among the best universities in the South in the 2012 edition of Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group.
The publication includes rankings of more than 1,600 schools nationwide. The 350-page 2012 edition of the Best Colleges guidebook is available at USNews.com and will be on newsstands Sept. 20.
PBA moved up in this year’s rankings from 54th last year to 51st this year among the 626 universities in the South region.
The 2012 Best Colleges rankings feature the established rankings of the Best National Universities and Best National Liberal Arts Colleges, while also including rankings of Top Public Schools, A+ Schools for B Students, Best Value Schools and Up-and-Coming Schools, among many others.
A new social media feature has also been added to Best Colleges that allows users to discover where their friends have attended college and connect directly with their friends on Facebook. This is another step U.S. News is taking to help provide resources to students and parents during their college search.
The college ranking categories used in the 2012 rankings have been updated to reflect the 2010 edition of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching's Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education's basic classification. As a result, some colleges have changed categories in the 2012 edition rankings.
Also included in the rankings for the first time are all for-profit institutions that meet the other U.S. News criteria to become eligible for the rankings. For more information about the 2012 Best Colleges ranking methodology, go to www.usnews.com/collegemeth.
