State Legislator Pays Visit to PBA

June 1, 2011
State Rep. Patrick Rooney Jr., left, with PBA Interim President Bill Fleming.

Florida House District 83 Rep. Patrick Rooney Jr., R-Palm Beach Gardens, visited Palm Beach Atlantic University on Wednesday during a post-legislative session tour of Palm Beach County.

During his stop, Rooney met with PBA Interim President Bill Fleming.

Rooney is an advocate of the Florida Resident Access Grant, which provides tuition assistance to Florida undergraduate students attending an eligible private, non-profit Florida college or university.

"As a product of independent higher education, I understand the economic, cultural and educational impact of independent colleges and universities in Florida," said Rooney, who holds degrees from Clemson University, Villanova University School of Law and Lehigh University.

Rooney, whose brother is U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, said he is visiting other local colleges and universities while at home in his district. "I’m gaining an appreciation for what they do for the county," he said. "PBA is another school leading the way."

Rooney’s niece, Brianna Kulp, graduated from PBA in May with a degree in psychology.
