Hannah Speiller, a freshman at Palm Beach Atlantic University, is the 2011 recipient of the University’s Rothschild Leadership Award.
The award recognizes an outstanding freshman leader of PBA’s Impact Leadership Team. The scholarship was established by PBA alumnus Philip Rothschild ’85 and his wife, Jennifer Jolley Rothschild ’86, to recognize student leadership potential.
Spellier, 18, a resident of the New York City borough of Queens, is majoring in English and secondary education and hopes to teach deaf and mute students. She fell in love with sign language while attending a summer camp, she said.
Speiller will serve as a resident assistant next school year, as well as an assistant with ILT. She said the ILT challenged her to interact with others and to step into leadership roles rather than standing on the sidelines.
“The biggest thing I’ve learned is the investment of my time in other people,” she said.
