Minott, a Fort Myers resident who majored in psychology and minored in musical theatre at PBA, plays the part of Susie, a showgirl with the New York City-based Zangler Follies. The show is packed with mistaken identity, plot twists and fabulous dance numbers, and it features hit Gershwin numbers like I’ve Got Rhythm, They Can’t Take That Away From Me and Shall We Dance.
“It’s been an amazing process so far just getting to work with people of this caliber,” Minott said, adding that many in the cast have worked on Broadway and shows that have toured nationally.
Minott appeared in theatrical productions during her years at PBA and also starred in a series of television commercials for the University.
She said she has especially enjoyed working with the show’s choreographer, Shea Sullivan, who also choreographed Minott’s talent for the 2009 Miss America pageant.
“She’s so talented, so creative and so encouraging,” Minott said. “She teaches and dances from the heart. She really feels the music. Getting to work with her has been really amazing.”
Minott said she also enjoys the many costume changes in the show, as well as the much beloved music.
“It’s a classic,” she said. “It really captures the essence of the American musical.”
