This weekend, four top lacrosse teams will meet in South Florida for the 2011 Sailfish Shootout, hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University. Joining PBA will be No. 9 Kennesaw State University, the United States Coast Guard Academy and Florida Gulf Coast University.
The event begins on Saturday, March 5, with a Diversity Open House and invitation-only clinic for the local U.S. Lacrosse BRIDGE (Building Relationships to Initiate Diversity Growth and Enrichment) affiliate from 1 to 2 p.m. at Currie Park, 2400 North Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach. Through the Palm Beach Atlantic and Coast Guard lacrosse programs, this event will showcase lacrosse and diversity on a large scale within Palm Beach County.
At 4 p.m., the action moves to Cardinal Newman High School, 512 Spencer Drive, West Palm Beach, for the first game of the Sailfish Shootout. The U.S. Coast Guard plays Florida Gulf Coast University. In the nightcap, Palm Beach Atlantic University hosts Kennesaw State University at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Kennesaw State and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy will compete at 1 p.m. The weekend concludes on Monday afternoon, as Palm Beach Atlantic hosts Coast Guard at 4 p.m.
Palm Beach Atlantic (3-3) enters the Sailfish Shootout following a home win against Georgia State, 21-9. The Sailfish are led offensively by junior Joe Ciringione, who is currently averaging 6.0 points per game.
