William Henry Willimon, a bishop in the United Methodist Church, will speak in chapel February 9. He has been called one of America's best-known preachers. For more than 20 years, he served as dean of the chapel at Duke University.
Author of more than 50 books, many of which have been translated to different languages, Willimon's words have extended far and influenced many. Willimon has taught courses to pastors and students in the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe and Australia. He has published more than 600 articles and developed curriculum materials for both youth and adults.
Elected Bishop of the United Methodist church since July 2004, Willimon now oversees 792 pastors and leads 157,000 Methodist in Alabama. Currently, Willimon serves on the board for The Christian Century, The Wittenburg Door and The Christian Ministry Preaching.
Willimon earned degrees from Emory University, Yale's Divinity School and Wofford College. For more than 20 years, he served as Dean of the Chapel at Duke University.
