Autumn Condio-Hollis, a junior in Palm Beach Atlantic University's Catherine T. MacArthur School of Leadership, is the 2010 recipient of a $1,500 scholarship from the American Association of University Women-Palm Beach County Branch.

Condio-Hollis, of West Palm Beach, is working toward a bachelor's degree in organizational management and has a 3.98 GPA. She plans to enroll in the MacArthur School's dual enrollment program so that she can begin working toward a master's degree in leadership.

She also helps to run a property enhancement company that she started with her husband, Luther Hollis. Because of her work and family schedule — they have three children —she takes many of her classes online.

"Besides being an excellent student, she was one who posted early and often to help drive online discussions and extend interaction," said Thomas Miller, assistant professor of business. "She participated in our ClassLive sessions and was always prepared and supportive of her peers."

Another of her instructors, Assistant Professor of English Pamela Payne, described Condio-Hollis as "a great student, one of those who consistently goes beyond the requirements of any assignment. She also helped her classmates by sharing her notes and helping them learn study techniques."

Condio-Hollis said she was surprised to learn she had been chosen for the award. "Just to be considered is an honor," she said.

She said she plans to use her degree to help others.

"I would like to start a foundation to help those who are less fortunate," she said.

The foundation will be called The Doers Foundation, based on a verse in the book of James which calls on believers to be doers and not just hearers of the word, she said.

The AAUW-Palm Beach County Branch awards a scholarship each year to the University, which selects a student who has an excellent grade point average and is sincere in pursuing a degree, said Barbara Wagner, the branch's vice president for scholarship and membership.
