The award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship, is presented to a college student based on his or her leadership in a school's journalism program, scholarship across all studies, portfolio of work and a free-form essay about career aspirations and how faith figures in future journalistic plans.
Webb, who is majoring in print journalism, is a writer for the University's student newspaper, The Beacon. She also won first place in the Color News Photo category for a photograph she shot for the newspaper that accompanied a story she wrote in January about Missionary Flights International. The organization, based in Fort Pierce, was among the first to provide disaster relief to Haiti after the Jan. 12 earthquake.
In addition, Webb and two other PBA student journalists, Anna Zetterberg and Samone Davis, won second place in the In Depth/Series category for a news feature they wrote for The Beacon about "Women at War."
