Several student organizations from Palm Beach Atlantic University's Gregory School of Pharmacy collaborated recently to host the school's third annual health fair, themed "Prescription for Health," at CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach.
The day-long health fair was organized by more than 175 student volunteers. Participants staffed 23 booths and distributed information, conducted screenings and provided other health-related educational services for more than 200 attendees.
Some of the health topics included asthma/COPD, children's health, cholesterol, diabetes, heartburn, herbals, hypertension, immunization, medication disposal, men's and women's health, poison prevention, skin care, smoking cessation, the new American plate, and veterinarian services.
CVS, Walgreens and Wal-Mart provided sponsorship for the health fair. Also during the event, a deejay and radio station WEAT-FM Sunny 104.3 provided music and entertainment.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation (NACDS) provided a $5,000 grant to help fund this year's event, which promoted health awareness in the local community.
Among the participating organizations were the Gregory School of Pharmacy's chapters of the American Pharmacists Association Academy for Student Pharmacists; the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists; Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists; and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
