December 6, 2010

The announcement, made at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, opened Senator LeMieux's last major policy address in Florida prior to leaving his senatorial post in January. His wife, Meike, was in the audience of more than 600 as were University trustees and administrators.

"Over the years, I have admired Palm Beach Atlantic's growth and its dedication to moral and ethical teachings," Senator LeMieux said. "I am honored and humbled Palm Beach Atlantic would consider housing my papers alongside their literary collection at the new Warren Library."

After leaving office, LeMieux will serve as a distinguished lecturer at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

"As researchers and proponents of public service, we could not be more delighted to be home of this important collection," Palm Beach Atlantic University President Lu Hardin said. "Though the Senator's term was brief, he was a contributor in some of the most important legislative decisions of our time."

"We have an outstanding facility and professional staff to take care of his collection in a way that will honor him and extend his legacy," President Hardin said.

Steven Baker, dean of the Warren Library at Palm Beach Atlantic, said that the LeMieux papers will be catalogued and made available to researchers according to Senate rules and federal laws.

Completed in 2009, the $30 million Warren Library is the hub of the University campus, incorporating new construction and the renovated historic building known as the Lassiter Rotunda. The library was named for the University's founding board chairman, Dr. Donald E. Warren, and his wife, Bebe.
