The Sailfish baseball team under the leadership of head coach and MLB Hall-of-Famer Gary Carter will kick off the 2011 season with a 100-inning game starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Dave Manzo Field at Dick Brown Park, 900 22nd Ave. N., Lake Worth.

The event will raise money for the team through pledges and donations. Proceeds will support equipment purchases, travel expenses and improvements to the playing field.

During the game, the Sailfish will be divided into two teams, and a pitching machine will replace live pitchers. At the end of 100 innings, the winning team will be announced.

Pledge forms are available in the athletics complex as well as in the alumni office in Sachs Hall. For information, please call (561) 803-2523.

Following this event, the team's season opener versus Lynn University will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.
