Five Palm Beach Atlantic University students have been chosen as recipients of Executive Women of the Palm Beaches 2013 scholarships. The students were recognized at the 30th annual Women in Leadership Luncheon on Thursday.

Palm Beach Atlantic University is developing online versions of two of its popular degree programs for adult students -- a Master of Science in Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Provost Dr. Joseph A. Kloba said that an online course format provides working, adult students greater access to further their education while continuing their employment and family obligations. Dr. Kloba noted that the leadership degree would be the first online graduate program to be offered at PBA. Both degree programs are currently offered in the traditional classroom format at Palm Beach Atlantic’s campuses in West Palm Beach and Orlando.

Eight music students from China have spent the past month living and studying at Palm Beach Atlantic University through a residency program developed by the University's School of Music and Fine Arts.

Zachary Schneider of Orlando and Chloe Westrich of St. Peters, Mo., have been named the 2013 recipients of the Servant Leadership Award from Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Servant Leadership Award recognizes students who are leaders in the areas of ministry and community service. Awards are provided through a generous donation from Sam and Betsy Reeves of North Palm Beach.

Nine students were honored Tuesday as the outstanding graduates of their schools and 45 others received departmental awards and scholarships as part of Palm Beach Atlantic University's Honors Day ceremony. The outstanding graduates each receive special recognition during spring commencement on May 4. In addition, one faculty member, Associate Professor of English Dr. Jenifer Elmore, received the Charles and Hazel Corts Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Palm Beach Atlantic University Director of Athletics Carolyn Stone announced Tuesday that David Balza has been named head coach for the men’s Division II basketball program. A veteran collegiate coach with more than 20 years of experience, Balza officially begins his duties in May. Balza has spent a majority of his coaching career in NCAA Division II with head coaching stints at Florida Gulf Coast University (2001-11) and Saint Joseph’s College (1998-01). He started the FGCU program. His leadership of the Eagles as a young NCAA Division II member saw the program experience early success as a South Region Independent. Balza’s teams were 114-39 in their five years at the Division II level before making the decision to transition to Division I.

Eight Palm Beach Atlantic University seniors chosen to speak in chapel over the course of four days during Senior Week. The speakers were chosen from a pool of students nominated by deans, faculty and staff members. Those asked to speak were Nathan Chau, Daniel Martin, Sunshine Peterson, Matthew Langford, Bobbie Thornton, Haley Locke, Phillip Major and Connor Dealy.

The Center for Integrative Science Learning at Palm Beach Atlantic University is hosting this year's Science Days at PBA summer camp, which will consist of a Science Exploration Camp for elementary school students and Science Camp for students in middle school. The camp will be held June 10-14.
