Johanna Kandel, author of “Life Beyond Your Eating Disorder” and CEO and founder of The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness (The Alliance) in West Palm Beach, Florida, was guest lecturer at a March 1 workshop hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Psychology Club, which is advised by Dr. Claire Wolan-O’Connor, assistant professor of Psychology. In recognition of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 26-March 3), Kandel shared with more than 30 students in Weyenberg Center information on eating disorders, and her personal experience.

Presidential ambassador, science club member and dance ministry leader Natalie Diaz hasn't wasted a moment of her time at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Yet she never let her busy schedule distract her from her studies. Diaz majored in biology with a concentration in pre-health professional preparation and a minor in chemistry, and she graduated with honors from PBA on Dec. 17. She was also chosen as the Outstanding Graduate of the School of Arts and Sciences.

Anna Kelly of Roanoke, Va., was named the fall Outstanding Graduate of the School of Communication and Media. In addition, she was chosen to offer her reflections to the fall 2011 graduating class during the University's commencement ceremony on Dec. 17.

Palm Beach Atlantic University has established the Farish Scholars Program, which will award a four-year, full-tuition scholarship annually to two incoming freshmen who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and a commitment to community service.

"Lead by example," Palm Beach Atlantic University's overall theme for this academic year, was also the challenge that commencement speaker Dr. Ken Mahanes issued to the fall 2011 graduating class on Saturday.

On Saturday, student Joshua Keck will be recognized as the Outstanding Graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University's Orlando campus during the fall commencement ceremony. But come January, he'll be right back in class picking up where he left off. Keck is receiving his bachelor's degree in organizational management, and he already has begun working toward his master's degree in leadership from PBA. He completed his undergraduate coursework in mid-August.
