Wednesday marked the 30th year of The Great American Bug Race at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The event, which takes place during Homecoming weekend, benefits the University's Science Club and is PBA's longest-running tradition.

Robert Elliott, a 1987 graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University who now serves as unit manager for human resources with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, will receive the Alumnus Service Award during Homecoming this week.

Two Palm Beach Atlantic University physical education students, Audrey Chausse and Michael Fritz, were recognized during the recent Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport annual fall conference in Orlando. Fritz, an Army veteran, was named Student of the Year, while Chausse received the Katherine W. Montgomery Scholarship.

On American Free Enterprise Day at Palm Beach Atlantic University, medalist Brian P. Burns, the grandson of an Irish immigrant, shared the story of his family's progress. Burns is a Palm Beach resident and a noted attorney, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

The original painting "Wishes Are Horses" by acclaimed Palm Beach artist Tauni de Lesseps has been placed on display in Palm Beach Atlantic University's Warren Library, thanks to a generous loan by art dealer, collector and musician Philip Foster, owner of Philip Foster Art in New York City.

Known as a tough competitor on the volleyball court during her college days, Leslie Walker Heinrichs, a 1999 graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University, today is guided by her softer side, using her considerable talents on behalf of abused and neglected children. The former Sailfish volleyball standout will be inducted into the University's Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 16 during Homecoming.
