For successfully running the International Polo Club's popular Kids Fun Zone during the 16-week polo season, two Palm Beach Atlantic University business students were awarded scholarships by the club to travel to Brazil for a 10-day educational business trip earlier this month.

The City of West Palm Beach will present a roundtable symposium on public comment at city meetings from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Beach Atlantic University's Lassiter Student Center, 900 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach. The event is open to the public.

The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness at Palm Beach Atlantic University has announced the recipients of its 2013-2014 Quality Initiative Grants. The grant cycle runs from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014.

"High Tea by the Sea" was the theme of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Alumni Association's 2013 Afternoon Tea and Silent Auction, held April 27 at The Beach Club in Palm Beach. The tea raised $17,000 for scholarships.

Chris Hernandez, managing editor of The Beacon newspaper until he graduated last December, has won high marks from the Evangelical Press Association for his Beacon story "The Jesus Vote." On Thursday the association released the results of its 2013 Higher Goal Awards. "Nice, solid public service piece that I wish everyone could have read before the election," wrote the judge about the Hernandez story. "Voters would do well to be informed by articles like this one rather than articles based on hysteria and hyperbole."

Not only was Michael Fritz named the Outstanding Graduate of the School of Education and Behavioral Studies at Palm Beach Atlantic University this spring, he also received two national awards for his work in his chosen field, physical education.

Two Palm Beach Atlantic University graduates were among the Palm Healthcare Foundation Nursing Distinction Award winners announced last week. Alexandra Gropp, who graduated from PBA on Saturday, was chosen Student Nurse of the Year. Also, Daphne Jordan, a 2010 PBA graduate who now serves as chest pain coordinator at Good Samaritan Medical Center, received the foundation's Rising Star Award. The Palm Healthcare Foundation Nursing Distinction Award recipients were recognized for their dedication to excellence, commitment to the profession of nursing and sense of community. The awards presentation took place Friday at The Breakers in Palm Beach.
