Dr. Donald Warren died today (March 31, 2014) at Hospice of Palm Beach County’s Charles W. Gerstenberg Center in West Palm Beach. He was 86. As its founding chairman, Dr. Warren was the University’s first fundraiser-in-chief and remained its No. 1 cheerleader throughout his life. The service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Family Church Downtown at First Baptist (formerly First Baptist Church West Palm Beach) with Dr. Jack Graham officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. The family has requested that memorial gifts be sent to the Bebe Warren Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made out to Palm Beach Atlantic University with Bebe Warren Scholarship Fund in the subject line and mailed to the Development Office, Palm Beach Atlantic University, P.O. Box 24708, West Palm Beach, FL 33416-4708.

Dr. Donald Warren, Founding PBA Chairman, Dies at 86

The Sunshine State Conference (SSC) has received official acceptance from Palm Beach Atlantic University to become a provisional member of the conference beginning July 1, 2014. Palm Beach Atlantic joins Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, who will also become a provisional member this July.

The Palm Beach Atlantic University Dance Ensemble presents Kaleidoscope 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, at the Rinker Playhouse of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, 701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach. The concert will feature the work of student choreographers Denton Gay and twin sisters Breanna and Deanna Butts, as well as works by three visiting choreographers. One of them, Barbara Craddock, brings more than 40 years of experience through her work performing and teaching with acclaimed mambo legend Pedro "Cuban Pete" Aguilar. With performance coordinator Victor Trevino, Craddock choreographed an original dance titled "Si Me Pudieras Amar."

Dance Ensemble Presents 'Kaleidoscope' April 4-5

Educational trauma experienced by college students can be viewed as a "hallmark of intellectual growth," Palm Beach Atlantic University Associate Professor of English Dr. Samuel Joeckel said Wednesday during the keynote address of the University's third annual Interdisciplinary Research Conference.

As the founder and president of the Hepzibah House ministry for victims of human trafficking, Palm Beach Atlantic University alumna Becky Dymond tries to bring hope and comfort to women who have been freed from the sex trade. Dymond is the guest speaker in chapel this week during Justice Week.

Greg Smith and Mark Elhilow, managing partners of Blue Ocean Capital, have established a new endowed scholarship for the Rinker School of Business at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The scholarship, to be available in the fall of 2015, will benefit PBA students majoring in finance or accounting. Smith and Elhilow have a long-standing relationship with Palm Beach Atlantic.

As dozens of their peers left for global projects in Central and South America and the Caribbean during spring break last week, a group of eight Palm Beach Atlantic University students and two staff members remained in West Palm Beach for a unique urban immersion experience.
Students Spend Break Serving in Their Own Back Yard

Celebrating the 10th event of the series, the School of Music and Fine Arts at Palm Beach Atlantic University will present its festival of new music March 27–29, 2014. The Frontwave New Music Festival is a biennial event that brings together remarkable composers and performers to present four concerts of truly contemporary music. All performances take place at Palm Beach Atlantic University in the Helen K. Persson Recital Hall located in Vera Lea Rinker Hall, 326 Acacia Rd. in West Palm Beach. Tickets for performances on March 27 and 28 are $10 general admission and $5 for students with ID. Tickets for March 29 performances are $5 for general admission and for $5 for students with ID. The Central Palm Beach County Community Foundation presented a check last week for $1,000 to support the Jerms McGraw Second Chance Scholarship Fund at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Foundation raised the funds at its Annual Community Fitness Run, held this past fall in Wellington.

The LeMieux Center for Public Policy at Palm Beach Atlantic University will host columnist and television commentator George Will at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the University's DeSantis Family Chapel, 300 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla.
