Palm Beach Atlantic University's Campus Recreation Department has opened its annual Strongman Competition to the public. Men and women age 18 and older are eligible to register for the competition set for 3 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation, 1100 S. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Competitors in three divisions will participate in the Atlas Stone Lift, Tire Flip, Bus Pull, Deadlift, Farmer's Walk, Sledge Pull and Log Press. A trophy will be awarded. Competitors are encouraged to pre-register. The registration fee is $10. To register, contact regina_smith@pba.edu or call 561-803-2336.

For the second consecutive year, Palm Beach Atlantic University was named the winner of the Online Course of the Year Award with a perfect score of 120/120 at the Association of Christian Distance Education (ACCESS) Conference held March 3-6 at Abilene Christian University.

Palm Beach Atlantic University was named to the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This designation is the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement. "Palm Beach Atlantic has a long history of service-learning and believes strongly in preparing our graduates to be active leaders and participants in an ever changing world," said President William M. B. Fleming, Jr. "We’re honored to receive this prestigious award – and owe much of it to the students themselves. They’re the energy driving our commitment and they’re the ones who make it all happen." Through a signature program called Workship, Palm Beach Atlantic University students have donated more than 2.55 million community service hours since the University was founded in 1968. This is the seventh straight year that Palm Beach Atlantic has been recognized with this honor.

Former U.S. Senator George LeMieux today announced the inaugural speaker at the LeMieux Center for Public Policy at Palm Beach Atlantic University. National political analyst and Harvard School of Government Professor David Gergen will speak to students and special guests at the University on Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. “I am very excited and pleased to welcome David Gergen as the LeMieux Center’s inaugural speaker. As a journalist, an analyst, and a senior advisor to four U.S. presidents, David brings an unparalleled depth of insight into national politics and first-hand accounts of America’s leading political figures,” said Senator LeMieux. “One of the reasons the Center was founded at Palm Beach Atlantic was to give students opportunities for conversations about public policy and leadership. There are a series of substantial and ongoing issues facing Florida and America, and a need for thoughtful consideration in how to address these challenges."

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told a gathering of more than 400 business, civic and religious leaders on Thursday that the single biggest national security threat is the crisis in K-12 education. In her address at the 2013 World LEADERS Conference held at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Rice told the crowd that in America, it's not important where you came from, but where you are going. "You can come from humble circumstances and still do great things," Rice said.

The Enterprise Holdings Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Palm Beach Atlantic University to support School of Music and Fine Arts programming. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of the company that operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands.

Gary Kelly, C.E.O. of Southwest Airlines, believes the purpose of his company is clear: "to connect people to what's important in their lives," he said Wednesday during the World LEADERS Conference at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Speaking to an audience of more than 400 in the University's DeSantis Family Chapel, Kelly was one of several high-profile speakers who addressed the topic of servant leadership during the first day of the two-day seminar. The conference, known for its unique blending of speakers from both business and ministry, offers executives from all areas of leadership the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s foremost leadership experts. Kelly, who oversees 46,000 employees at the nation’s largest airline, said the thing he loves about Southwest is that “we are servant leaders because we want to be.”
