Not many plays have a song about Palm Beach, but we found one sung by Maysie LaBird in the Flaherty and Ahrens family favorite, “Seussical.” The team that gave us “Once On This Island” and “Ragtime” bring to life the delightful characters from the many books and endless imagination of the beloved Dr. Seuss. Our narrator, in the person of The Cat In The Hat, takes us on a journey with Horton The Elephant as he seeks to help the denizens of Whoville. So leave your cynicism at home and join us in the slightly askew, always uplifting, wide-eyed world of Dr. Seuss.
The performance is directed by Don Butler, associate professor of theatre. The show opens in a rather drab urban environment. “We're trying to show that beauty and wonderment can be found anywhere, even if at first you don't see it,” Butler said.
