Dr. Aleman arrives at PBA after two years as a Chemistry (General and Organic) instructor and manager of the Cell-Based Drug Screening Core Facility at Florida Atlantic University. As the manager of the core facility since its inception, she developed several standard assays to assist FAU scientists in determining the biological activity of newly synthesized and novel compounds. Her research focused on the discovery of new drugs and therapies in the context of solid tumors; her work also included training students in cell culture techniques, nucleic acid and protein extraction, PCR and several other molecular biology assays. Dr. Aleman received her Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida Atlantic University. While there, she studied the differential activity of the SIM2-s gene in colon cancer and elucidated some of the molecular pathways associated with the gene overexpression in cancers of the colon, pancreas and prostate. In addition to her degree in Chemistry, Dr. Aleman also studied at Continental Theological Seminary in Belgium and at New Covenant International University in Lake Worth, Florida, where she obtained a degree in Urban Missions. Dr. Aleman lived in Belgium, Mexico and France, and is fluent in French, Spanish and English.
