Assistant Professor
Assistant Professor of Biology
B.S., Palm Beach Atlantic University ’99; Ph.D., University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Suzanne Cardona received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Palm Beach Atlantic University where she also graduated with distinction from the Supper Honors Program. She performed her graduate studies in Cell and Molecular Physiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where her doctoral thesis focused on probing the function of an acid/base transport protein. Dr. Cardona taught electrophysiology for two summers in an introductory Neuroscience course held at the Dauphin Island Research Institute. She also served as co-director of the Industry Roundtable at UAB that showcased traditional and non-traditional career opportunities for scientists. Following completion of her doctorate, she was a postdoctoral associate in the Vision Sciences Department of University of Alabama at Birmingham. There her research focused on the biochemical characterization of mutations in the dim-light photoreceptor that lead to blinding diseases. Dr. Cardona is currently a member of Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and a former member of the American Physiological Society. Her general research interest is the characterization of protein mutations to understand normal protein function or protein dysfunction that leads to disease.
