Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies

B.A., Hardin-Simmons University; M.Div., Logsdon Seminary; Ph.D., Baylor University.

Dr. Nathan Maxwell came to PBA in January 2009 as an adjunct instructor in the School of Ministry and MacArthur School of Leadership. In July 2009, Dr. Maxwell became an instructional design assistant in the Office of Online Learning, providing technical services in a collaborative effort with faculty to create online courses for PBA. Prior to coming to PBA, Dr. Maxwell served for three years as instructor of biblical studies and director of technology at the South Texas School of Christian Studies, a collaborative extension campus for Howard-Payne University, and Logsdon Seminary. At the School of Christian Studies Dr. Maxwell taught biblical Hebrew and courses in Old Testament studies for undergraduate and seminary students. He also provided campus-wide faculty, staff and student technical support and development. Dr. Maxwell’s primary interests are Old Testament poetics and hermeneutics. Dr. Maxwell’s dissertation focused on analyzing poetic voice in the book of Psalms, and he subsequently has presented papers at the regional and national Society of Biblical Literature on the function of poetic voice within the Psalter. He has also written numerous dictionary articles for the New International Dictionary of the Bible. In addition to his academic interests, Dr. Maxwell has also presented at a national conference on the technical aspects of online course design. Nathan is from Chugiak, Alaska, and has been married since 1997 to his wife, Kathy, an associate professor in the School of Ministry at PBA. Nathan and Kathy have attended or worked at the same school since junior high. They currently attend First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach.
