Women’s Chorale Concert: "Songs of the Heart: Love Songs through the Ages"
Love Songs through the Ages,” featuring classical compositions by celebrated composers both old and new, including Gabriel Faure’s Les Roses d’Ispahan, Eric Whitacre’s She Weeps Over Rahoon, and Libby Larsen’s Jack’s Valentine. The concert closes with an amorous set of popular and Broadway standards by Gershwin and his contemporaries. In the spring the Chorale will present: “On the Shores of Ancient Albion: Choral music from the British Isles.”
“And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England’s mountains green?” William Blake’s epic poem Jerusalem invites us into the rich and vast heritage of music and poetry from the United Kingdom. Rutter’s well-known Gaelic Blessing, Daley’s Lake Isle of Innisfree, and Elgar’s My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land are seamlessly interlaced with traditional songs Loch Lomond and Waly, Waly. The evening ends with a rousing set of folk music from Ireland.
