Chris Hernandez, managing editor of The Beacon newspaper until he graduated last December, has won high marks from the Evangelical Press Association for his Beacon story “The Jesus Vote.”
On Thursday the association released the results of its 2013 Higher Goal Awards.
“Nice, solid public service piece that I wish everyone could have read before the election,” wrote the judge about the Hernandez story. “Voters would do well to be informed by articles like this one rather than articles based on hysteria and hyperbole.”
The story, published just before the November election, was entered in the contest category “General Article: Long.” Judges gave it a score of 42 points out of a possible 50.
The contest judges also cited the cover of The Beacon’s election issue, calling it “clever and creative.” The cover artwork was done by Charlotte Wynne.
