PBA, Local Church Partner to Send 150,000 Meals to Local Schools

February 12, 2013

Responding to widespread hunger in South Florida, Palm Beach Atlantic University and Bethesda by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach are working with Feeding Children Everywhere to make a difference in the lives of children by packaging 150,000 meals to send to schools in Palm Beach County.

On Saturday morning February 23, church volunteers, University students, staff and faculty will gather to package healthy lentil casseroles containing ingredients specifically to chosen combat the effects of malnutrition. Nine hundred volunteers are expected to work over three shifts that morning.

Volunteers will arrive at the Feeding Children Everywhere event to see tables set up as 22 assembly lines. After quick instructions are given, the volunteers will put on hairnets and sanitize their hands before hand-packaging ingredients into small bags, placed into personalized boxes and supplied to hungry children.

The meals will be sent to local public schools’ crisis food pantries throughout Palm Beach County. Belvedere Elementary, Conniston Middle, Clifford O. Taylor/ Kirklane Elementary and Forest Hill High schools are among the local schools that will benefit from this effort, according to Palm Beach Atlantic’s Dean of Students Kevin Abel.

Dean Abel added that University volunteers already are committing to turn out for the event, which will take place on the Intramural Fields, just south of the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation at 1100 S. Dixie Highway.

About Feeding Children Everywhere

Feeding Children Everywhere (FCE) is a social charity based in Orlando, Fla. The FCE concept was launched in 2010 and their mission is to empower and mobilize people to assemble healthy meals for hungry children. The driving mission is to mobilize individuals from all walks of life, empowering them to answer the need to end hunger through their own personal actions. Meal-packaging events show fundraising groups that they are having a tangible impact on the hunger crisis, as their involvement makes distribution possible. The food is provided at no cost to local organizations in the U.S. and in regions around the world. To date, the FCE team has mobilized 50,000 people and shipped more than nine million meals worldwide.
