Moon-Sook Park
Associate Professor of Voice
A native of Korea, Moon-Sook Park earned the B.M. in Voice from Seoul National University; a graduate Diploma in Voice from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (art song, opera); post-graduate studies at the Staatliche Hochschle für Musik und Darstellende Stuttgart (Lieder performance), and at the Saarland Musikhochschule (vocal music for the concert stage) in Germany; and the Privata Diploma (opera, bel-canto technique) of Maestra F. Cavalli’s Accademia di Canto in Milan, Italy. She has studied voice with prominent singers, such as Eva Brink-Hillemann, Luisa Bosabalian, Siegmund Nimsgern, Philipp Huttenloch, Floriana Cavalli, Barbara Honn, and participated in master classes with Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Ingrid Bjoner, and others. She is presently pursuing the DMA in voice performance at College-Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati.
While in Europe, Moon-Sook Park was featured in over 200 performances as soprano soloist in concerts of representative oratorio and chamber works with numerous orchestras and choral societies in Germany and in other European cities, including Coronation Mass (Mozart), Requiem (Mozart), C-Minor Mass (Mozart), Gloria (Poulenc), German Requiem (Brahms), Messiah (Handel), St. John’s Passion (Bach), St. Matthew’s Passion (Bach), Magnificat (Bach), B-minor Mass (Bach) ,Magnificat (Bach and Vivaldi), Nelson Mass (Haydn), Creation (Haydn), Elijah (Mendelssohn), Paulus (Mendelssohn), Gloria (Poulenc), and others. Ms. Park’s operatic repertoire includes the roles of Pamina in Magic Flute, Susanna in Marriage of Figaro, Gilda in Rigoletto, Susanna in Susanna’s secret, and Liú in Turandot. She has performed solo recitals, chamber and operatic works at prominent concert halls, cathedrals, and theaters including Freiburg Kaufhaus Hall, Wien-Schubert-Hall, Hamburg Brahms-Musik Hall, Slovakia National Theater, Swiss Basel Concert Hall, Blue-House Grand Hall (Korean President’s residence), Seoul KBS Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Carnegie Hall, and Kravis Center. She was a stipend recipient of K.A.A.D. in Germany (scholarship for young future scholars) and won the coveted Bayreuth Stipend Award for extraordinary young artists. She performed in notable world-premiers at prominent music festivals like Darmstadt Neu-Musik-Festival, Hindemith-Festival, Webern Festival, Wagner Festival, and Mozart Festival, many of which were recorded by prominent broadcasts in Germany (WDR, SWF, HRF). She was also featured in the 1992 Rossini Festival, which included world-premiere performances of two recently uncovered Rossini works on the bicentennial of his death. The live performances were recorded, and are available on CD and have been preserved as historical archive materials.
Prior to joining the voice faculty at Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2003, Ms. Park has served as Visiting Lecturer of Voice and German Diction at Hanguk Conservatory and Kyungwon University (Seoul), Visiting Lecturer of Voice and Song Literature at Seoul National University, Assistant Professor of Voice at Sejong University, Visiting Professor of Voice at Long Island University (New York), Teaching Assistant at the College-Conservatory of Music (Cincinnati). Ms. Park’s former students teach and perform internationally. They have participated and won in numerous vocal competitions such as Internationaler Wettbewerb für Liedkunst in Stuttgart (prestigious German art song competition), Concours Chimay Chant Barouq in Belgium, and International Singing Competition in Cologne; and have been district and regional winners at the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions and the Corbett Opera Scholarship Award competition, among others. Former students are singing professionally in Europe, Korea, and the U.S and hold professorships in voice throughout those countries.
Ms. Park is active as a performer nationally and internationally in solo recitals, lecture recitals, concert music, and giving master classes. Her original research on aspects of belief and doubt in the works of Wolf and Mörike has been well received in recent lecture recitals given in Cincinatti, San Juan Puerto Rico, and West Palm Beach.
