Marlene Woodward-Cooper
Professor of Piano

Marlene Woodward-Cooper joined the faculty of PBA in 1970, having moved to Florida to pursue a career as a professional musician. She has played the piano in churches and composed music since she was eight years old. She has several teaching pieces for piano published by Belwin, and her newer compositions, especially for four-hands, have been performed extensively. Since coming to Florida, she has been the staff accompanist for the Palm Beach Opera (1965-1987), accompanist for the Choral Society, pianist/organist at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach, a founding member of the Society Trio of the Chamber Society of the Palm Beaches and a well-known solo pianist and accompanist in South Florida.
She has appeared as the soloist with the PBA Symphony in the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5, the Rachmaninoff Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Choral Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra by Beethoven and other works. She has served as an adjudicator in numerous competitions.
In 1992, she was voted PBA Professor of the Year, and she is listed several times in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Woodward-Cooper teaches piano, musicianship skills and accompanying, as well as keyboard literature and pedagogy. She is the choir director/organist/pianist at Our Savior Lutheran Church in West Palm Beach.
