Admission to major tracks of study in the Department of Theatre is by audition only. Auditions for the Acting Track of the Theatre major consists of two contrasting monologues one minute in length. Students auditioning for the Musical Theatre program must present two contrasting musical theatre pieces and a one-minute monologue.
Auditions for the program are conducted four to five times per year.
For the program in Technical Production and Design, students should prepare a portfolio that demonstrates their skill and experience in technical production or design for theatre and/or artistic disciplines such as drawing, painting, drafting or computer graphics.
All auditions will involve an interview with Theatre faculty and a question-and-answer session.
In addition to University application procedures, if you would like to pursue one of the tracks in the Cinema-
Television Program, you must file an application with the School of Communication and Media.
Please submit a personal statement of approximately 750 words. The first two-thirds of this statement should state in detail why you are seeking training for a career in the entertainment industry. You can use the final third of your personal statement to outline your history of creative accomplishments.
For admission to the Film Production and Television Production tracks, we recommend you submit a portfolio of your creative work, which may include materials such as screenplays, stage plays, photographic work, etc. However, any video or film project, especially those in narrative form, will strengthen your candidacy. We accept such projects on DVD and VHS or mini-DV video formats only.
For the Screen Acting track, you must comply with the auditioning process as stipulated by the Admission Requirements of the Theatre Program. Please contact us for more information.
