Dr. Brown Appointed Director of Faculty Development

July 12, 2011

Upon approval of Palm Beach Atlantic University Interim President William M.B. Fleming Jr., Dr. Daniel Brown, professor of pharmacy practice in PBA’s Gregory School of Pharmacy, has been appointed to the position of director of faculty development for the University, effective immediately.

Dr. Daniel BrownIn his role as director of faculty development, Dr. Brown will work with both new and current faculty, creating and implementing initiatives designed to provide support and to enhance the teaching-learning process. He will collaborate with the school deans and the members of the Faculty Development Committee to determine the specific needs of faculty, to identify those who could serve as mentors to new faculty and to explore methods for developing additional faith integration opportunities for the classroom.

He will work with the deans and faculty to partner with student services personnel to create a strategic plan for enhancing academic advising across the university. In addition to his duties in faculty development, Dr. Brown will continue to serve in a half-time role as a professor of pharmacy practice.

Dr. Brown has more than 35 years of academic and professional experience, much of which has been spent working in hospital pharmacy management. His career began as a high school chemistry teacher before he decided to pursue a degree in pharmacy.

Dr. Brown has served as a clinical practice faculty member at several schools of pharmacy, holding such positions as director of drug information, director of experiential education, director of pharmacy services, director of ambulatory care and program director for an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency. He also established a pharmacy residency program at two different institutions.

He initially came to PBA in 2001 as director of experiential education for the Gregory School of Pharmacy, and served in this capacity until 2003. Upon returning to PBA in 2005, he assumed the role of interim dean, and then full-time dean of the Gregory School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Brown’s passion for the teaching-learning process and for developing new learning methodologies, as well as his desire to mentor new faculty, led him to return to the classroom as a full-time professor during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Dr. Brown and his wife, Dr. Mary Ferrill, have been married almost 20 years, are residents of West Palm Beach and attend Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens.
