The Palm Beach Atlantic University Athletic Department recently presented awards to 19 student-athletes and also honored its 25 graduating seniors.
For the first time, this year’s PBA Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards resulted in a tie. Meghan Gilmore and Angie Kuhn, both record-breakers in the sports of women's cross country and women's soccer respectively, were named Female Athlete of the Year, while Krasimir Atanasov of the men’s tennis team and Jonathan Lawrence from the men's basketball team shared the Male Athlete of the Year honor.
PBA Interim President William Fleming presented the President’s Award to junior volleyball team member Janeen McCormick and tennis player Luke Bolanos. The award is given to two student-athletes, one male and one female, with outstanding academic achievements while contributing to their team's athletic success.
Director of Athletics Bob White presented the Athletic Director’s Award to seniors Alex Regin of the women’s soccer team and Graham White of the baseball team. The award is given to two student-athletes, one male and one female, who have exemplified Christian values on and off the field along with upholding the academic and athletic standards of the PBA Athletics Department.
Jordan Kong of the Sailfish women’s basketball team and Josh Sharpe of the men’s soccer team received the Clark Botel Award. The award is named after PBA's first sports information director and is given to the male and female student-athletes who represent the University with outstanding attitude, leadership and servanthood.
Katie Runyon of the women’s soccer team and Logan Thomas of the baseball team were recipients of the Don Harp Award. The award is given to two student-athletes, one male and one female, who are rising seniors who have excelled in competition and demonstrated outstanding Christian leadership. Recipients each receive a one-year scholarship of $1,000.
Kristin Carroll of the volleyball team, Katie Livesay of the women’s tennis team, Brittany Schneider of the softball team, Kyle Crouse of the men’s soccer team and David Wood of the men’s basketball team are recipients of the Sailfish Award. The award is given to male and female student-athletes who bleed Sailfish "Blue and White."
Also, two students were recipients of the University’s first Fellowship of Christian Athletes Award: volleyball player Jessica Way and soccer player Matt Crumb. James Pendleton, area director for the Florida Gold Coast FCA, helped present the award.
