Palm Beach Atlantic University theatre student Lauren Bell plays Lady Grace Manley-Prowe and Jonathan Clarke plays Col. Gillweather in the Theatre Department's upcoming production of Something’s Afoot.

The Palm Beach Atlantic University Theatre Department will present the new murder mystery musical Something’s Afoot Feb. 23-25 and Feb. 29-March 2 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.

The production is based on the book, music and lyrics by James McDonald, David Vos and Robert Gerlach and with additional music by Ed Linderman. The performances will be held in the University’s Fern Street Theatre, located at 500 Fern St., West Palm Beach.

This zany and entertaining musical mystery takes a satirical poke at Agatha Christie mysteries and musical styles of the past. Ten people are stranded in an isolated English country house during a raging thunderstorm. One by one they're murdered by cleverly fiendish devices while the survivors frantically race to uncover the identity and motivation of the cunning culprit.

The production is directed by Don Butler, associate professor of theatre. Butler has spent the greater part of his life as a professional actor and director but has taught as an adjunct at a number of colleges and conservatories, including Mountain View College in Dallas, Wagner College on Staten Island, The American Music and Dramatic Academy in New York, and for seven years, at Palm Beach State College. He has directed some 60 productions around the country and has had a hand in the establishment of four Equity theaters, including New York’s Hypothetical Theatre, Dallas’ Lyric Stage, Miami’s Actors Playhouse and Palm Beach County’s Take Heed Theater Company. He directed each of these theaters’ inaugural production.

Tickets are $15 general admission or two for $25; $10 seniors; and $5 students with I.D. Several performances are already sold out. For tickets to the remaining shows, contact Ticket Central 561-803-2970 or ticketcentral@pba.edu. Visit www.pba.edu/performances for more information.
