Thursday, Sept. 4, will be a special day in Palm Beach Atlantic University’s history with the highly anticipated ribbon cutting for the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus, which gives the University its first home fields for baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer and tennis competition in its 47-year history.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, is set for 5:30 p.m. at the 76-acre facility located at 3401 Parker Ave. in West Palm Beach. A men’s soccer match versus Southeastern University begins at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

“The Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus is a jewel in the heart of West Palm Beach,” said Dennis Grady, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. “It reflects Palm Beach University’s vision for the college and commitment to our community. This state-of-the-art athletic complex will impact our city’s economy by bringing visiting teams and families to our area for many years to come.”

Gifts from friends of the University, faculty, staff and alumni already have amounted to $15 million toward the goal.

“Thanks to our donors and community sponsors, Palm Beach Atlantic University has entered into an unprecedented season in its history,” University President William M. B. Fleming, Jr., said. “The Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus will be a hub of activity for our student-athletes as they compete for the first time in the Sunshine State Conference and for students who will use the facilities for recreation and events. This special place will foster sportsmanship, inspired competition and camaraderie, building lasting friendships and cherished memories.”
