Recipients Chosen for 2013-2014 Quality Initiative Grants

The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness at Palm Beach Atlantic University has announced the recipients of the University's 2013-2014 Quality Initiative Grants. The grant cycle runs from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014.

♦   Dr. Mireille Aleman, assistant professor of chemistry, School of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Fred Browning, associate professor of physics, School of Arts and Sciences, with Holly Nelson, senior, biology major. “Validation of Computer Modeling in Cell System – an Integrated Approach to Undergraduate Research.”

♦   Dr. Mireille Aleman, assistant professor of chemistry, School of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Cidya Grant, assistant professor of chemistry, School of Arts and Sciences, with Morganne Bayliss, junior, biology major, and Alexis Fruggiero, freshman, biology major. “Integrated Approach to Standardized Ethnopharmacology Projects.”

♦   Dr. Stephanie Bennett, associate professor of communication and media ecology, School of Communication and Media. “Development of a New Course in Applied Digital Media Ethics.”

♦   Juan-Jose Cavallo, junior, music major. “The Hamitic Curse: The Church’s Response to this Hermeneutical Issue.”

♦   Dr. Angela Clauson, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, Gregory School of Pharmacy. “Assessing the Impact of Applying Pharmacy Students’ Strengths and Positive Impact Assessments to Building Better Leaders, Improving Career Development and Balancing a Positive Work and Personal Life.”

♦   Dr. Erin Dorval, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, Gregory School of Pharmacy. “Impact of Identifying Students’ Strengths on a Community Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience.”

♦   Dr. Sanaz Dovell, assistant professor of chemistry, School of Arts and Sciences. “Isolation and Purification of Anticancer Components of Crude Extracts from Annona glabra (pond apple) Seeds” (deferred from a previous QI grant cycle).

♦   Diane Esposito, assistant professor of nursing-psychiatric, School of Nursing. “The Impact of Abortion on Women’s Mind, Body and Spirit.”

♦   Barbara Kelly, associate professor of pharmacy practice, Gregory School of Pharmacy. “Assessing the Impact of Identifying Pharmacy Students’ Signature Strengths to Build Better Leaders and Create More Effective Teams.”

♦   Dr. Velma Lee, assistant professor of management, Rinker School of Business, with Friederike Dachsel, sophomore, psychology major and business minor. “When Ford meets Mercedes-Benz: Comparing American and German Team Behavior: a Social Learning Cycle Perspective.”

♦   Dr. Angie McDonald, associate professor of psychology, School of Education and Behavioral Studies, with Mandi Mills, junior, psychology major. “Parenting Preparation and Coping, Parenting Style and Child Adjustment among Families with Adopted Children.”

♦   Dr. James Mitroka, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences, Gregory School of Pharmacy. “Hair Cortisol Levels as a Marker of Stress Levels in a Cohort of Students.”

♦   Jerica Moore, junior, athletic training major. “Current Practice in Prevention and Treatment of Exertional Heat Illness.”

♦   Dr. Vanessa Rowan, assistant professor of biology, School of Arts and Sciences. “Autism and EEG: What does ART have to do with it?”

♦   Dr. Olga Rybalkina, assistant professor of psychology, School of Education and Behavioral Studies, with Terrini Woods, graduate student, counseling psychology. “Attitudes towards Counseling among African-American College Students: A Grounded Theory Study.”

♦   Dr. Christine Yocum, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, Gregory School of Pharmacy. “Impact of the 4S Rx Tool on the Frequency and Quality of Feedback.”
