University Expands Recycling Options with Dream Machines

February 1, 2012

Recycling has gone high-tech at Palm Beach Atlantic University with the arrival of the PepsiCo Dream Machine recycling initiative, which allows green-minded members of the PBA community to deposit their empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans in computerized receptacles and earn rewards points for their efforts.

Two Pepsico Dream Machine computerized recycling receptacles arrived on campus earlier this school year, including this one in the Lassiter Student Center.

The Dream Machine recycling program, introduced on Earth Day 2010, will make thousands of recycling kiosks and static bins available in popular, high-traffic public locations such as gas stations, stadiums, and parks.

Two Dream Machine kiosks arrived on campus earlier this school year, one located in the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation and the other in the Lassiter Student Center. To note, PBA joins the Palm Beach Zoo and Lynn University as the first sites in Palm Beach County to house the machines.

With approximately 4,000 Dream Machines located in 40 states to date, the program aims to create strategic partnerships to help increase the U.S. beverage container recycling rate to 50 percent by 2018.

The Dream Machine program, created by PepsiCo in collaboration with Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful, offers a personal reward system, powered by Greenopolis, which allows consumers to earn points for every empty plastic bottle or aluminum can recycled in Dream Machine kiosks. Those points can then be redeemed for local discounts on entertainment, dining and travel by visiting www.greenopolis.com.

Not only does recycling in a Dream Machine support the environment, but the more bottles and cans recycled in Dream Machines, the more support PepsiCo will provide to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, a national program offering free, experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11 U.S. veterans with disabilities.

The PepsiCo Dream Machines join the traditional recycling bins that have been in place across PBA’s West Palm Beach, Orlando, and Wellington campuses for several years. To find additional Dream Machine locations, please visit www.DreamMachineLocator.com.
