The Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival opens its summer season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Palm Beach Atlantic University in the Helen K. Persson Recital Hall in Vera Lea Rinker Hall, 326 Acacia Road, West Palm Beach.
After the opening concert, PBA will continue to host chamber music lovers from around the state on three consecutive Fridays (July 11, 18 and 25).
To allow access to more Palm Beach County residents, the festival also is held at 2 p.m. each Sunday in July at the Crest Theatre in Delray Beach and each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens.
Works on the first weekend concerts include Malcolm Arnold’s “Trio for Flute, Viola and Bassoon,” Op. 6; Herbert Howells’ “Rhapsodic Quintet for clarinet and string quartet,” Op. 31; and Johann Hummel’s “Septet No. 2 in C major 'Military',” Op. 114 for flute, clarinet, trumpet, violin, cello, bass and piano.
Works by Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Villa-Lobos and others will be featured in the coming weeks.
This is the festival’s ninth year at PBA and its 23rd year overall. The festival’s co-founders are Karen Dixon, Michael Ellert and Michael Forte. All three have served as adjunct faculty members in the University’s School of Music and Fine Arts.
Tickets are $25 per concert or $85 for a four-concert subscription. Admission is free for students with ID. For tickets and schedule information, please call (800) 330-6874 or visit www.pbcmf.org.
