Palm Beach Atlantic University President William M. B. Fleming Jr. last week recognized six members of the PBA community for demonstrating the University’s theme for the 2013-14 academic year, “PBA One — One Mind, One Voice.”
The honorees each received clear Lucite paperweights bearing that theme.
Director of Technology Support and Media Services Jason Thomas received the award on behalf of the Media Services team. President Fleming spoke of Thomas’s quiet leadership of a team often called upon to handle big and multiple events on short notice. They always come through with a spirit of teamwork and a can-do attitude, President Fleming said.
Supper Honors student Juan-Jose Cavallo was honored for his volunteerism during the MLK Challenge. Cavallo, a music major, was asked at the last minute to handle the team that participated in the downtown West Palm Beach clean-up, a team later complimented by city officials for its outstanding work.
Also recognized were four organizers of the Bridges program, which encourages and supports students who need extra academic help. President Fleming said both he and his wife, Pam, consider the program to be close to their heart. He expressed his gratitude to the group and said he knew that students who go through this program, remain at PBA and then graduate would go on to be a blessing to the University in the future.
The honorees are Vanetta Bratcher, director of the Student Success Center; Comfort Olugbuyi, FYE advisor for the Student Success Center; Jean Giarrusso, instructor of mathematics; and Paul Hauptmann, instructor of English.
