Dr. Forrest Flaniken, senior vice president of Wycliffe Bible Translators and an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Orlando campus, was fatally injured in a traffic accident while riding his bicycle on Sunday. Dr. Flaniken was 53.
According to news reports, Dr. Flaniken was struck by a vehicle as he rode in the southbound bicycle lanes on South Avalon Park Boulevard. The 18-year-old driver is facing criminal charges, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Dr. Flaniken had taught at PBA since 2001. He taught the Budgeting and Accounting course to nearly every student in the MacArthur School of Leadership’s organizational management program at the Orlando campus, said Dr. Craig Domeck, dean of the Orlando Campus and assistant professor of leadership at PBA.
Dr. Flaniken and his wife, Kristen, joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1992. He helped oversee the move of the organization’s U.S. headquarters from Huntington Beach, Calif., to Orlando in 1999, according to the Wycliffe web site.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Forrest III, Nelson and Spencer. Services are pending.
