John Barrios, a junior from Miami, and Carey Charron, a senior from West Palm Beach, have been chosen for the Northwestern Mutual Scholars program. The program is open to juniors and seniors who are majoring in finance, management or marketing.
The students are interning at Northwestern Mutual this fall and will receive a $2,500 scholarship in the spring semester.
Northwestern Mutual representatives said that 40 percent of the company’s executives, managing directors and top producers come from its internship program. “Having a local university that shares the same values and commitment to excellence as we do, makes a great partnership,” officials said.
Barrios is majoring in finance and minoring in philosophy. He is a student government representative, member of the College Republicans and intramural team captain. In 2012, he served as team leader and coordinator for a PBA mission trip to Jamaica, and for two years he served as a summer camp counselor for high school students.
He has completed two previous internships, one with American Majority Action and another with Old Cutler Presbyterian Church. The Westminster Christian School graduate also is a graduate of Boys State.
Charron is majoring in finance with a concentration in personal wealth management and minoring in ministry leadership studies. She is a graduate of Berean Christian School, and in high school she completed 430 hours of community service. In her time at PBA, she completed an additional 2,100 hours.
She has traveled on a mission trip to Costa Rica, and she has worked with the children’s and student ministries at Christ Fellowship Church.
