State Senator Joe Negron to Speak at Spring Commencement

WEST PALM BEACH — State Senator Joe Negron (R-Stuart) is the featured speaker at Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Spring Commencement at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

Florida State Senator Joe Negron to speak at Palm Beach Atlantic University's 2014 Spring Commencement on May 10.More than 500 candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and professional degrees from the West Palm Beach, Orlando, Wellington and online campuses will participate in the ceremony. Among the graduates is Lauren Graham, a Hobe Sound resident who sustained a head injury in a 2011 traffic accident. In addition, the University will award a posthumous degree to the family of Carlton McCartney, a West Palm Beach man who was fatally shot a few weeks before end of the academic year.

The event is open to graduates and guests who hold tickets, and will be live streamed on pba.edu.

Sen. Joe Negron (R-Stuart) represents District 32, which includes parts of Indian River, Martin, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties. He serves as chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Select Committee on Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin. He also serves as alternating chair of the Joint Legislative Budget Commission and as a member of the Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance and Senate Committee on Rules.

He is a native Floridian, born in West Palm Beach. Sen. Negron has an undergraduate degree from Stetson University, a law degree from Emory University and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University. He practices law with the statewide law firm of Gunster.

Sen. Negron has focused his legislative efforts on the budget, insurance issues and protection of individual liberties. He was elected to the Senate in 2009, and prior to that he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000-2006. There, he served as chair of the Appropriations Committee and co-chair of the Florida House Taxpayer Protection Caucus. In 2007, he was co-chair of the Attorney General Bill McCollum Transition Team.
