The Palm Beach Atlantic University Theatre Department will present The Long Christmas Dinner by Thornton Wilder at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 at the Fern Street Theatre, 500 Fern Street, West Palm Beach. On Saturday, Dec. 3, shows will be at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the theatre.
Students will transform the University’s Fern Street Theatre into a cozy living room to present this one-act drama that traverses 90 years and represents, in accelerated motion, Christmas dinners for several generations of one American family.
A serious play lightened with humor of character, it vividly describes themes of typical American life, including the development of the countryside, changes in customs and manners and the accumulation of personal possessions.
The performance is directed by Daniel Gordon, professor of theatre. Gordon teaches design and technical theatre classes at PBA and has served as an adjunct instructor. Before coming here, he was the technical director for Palm Beach State College's Eissey Campus Theatre. While at PBSC, he taught classes in stagecraft, scene design and theatre appreciation. He has spent much time on the road touring with such artists as Carol Channing, Rich Little, Rita Moreno, Jerry Lewis and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
Locally, he has designed for Ballet Florida, the Harid Conservatory, The Burt Reynolds Institute and the International Ballet Festival of Miami, as well as serving as artistic director for the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival.
Tickets are $15 general admission or two for $25; $10 seniors 65+; and $5 students with ID. For more information, contact Ticket Central at (561) 803-2970 or firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.pba.edu/performances.
