Blue lights will illuminate Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Warren Library on the evening of Monday, April 2, as part of this year’s Light It Up Blue for Autism Speaks initiative.

That initiative kicks off locally at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, when the Royal Park Bridge — the middle bridge joining Palm Beach and West Palm Beach — will illuminate with special blue lights during a ceremony with Autism Speaks co-founders Suzanne and Bob Wright, West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio and local families.

In 2011, Palm Beach Atlantic honored Suzanne Wright during its annual Women of Distinction luncheon, which raises money for scholarships.

Underwriting the cost of lighting the bridge are sponsors Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart and Shipley, Attorneys at Law, and marketing and communications consultants The Geier Group.

Along with Palm Beach Atlantic, additional Palm Beach-area buildings and landmarks Lighting It Up Blue on April 2 include the Palm Beach City Hall, Palm Beach County Convention Center, Mar-a-Lago Club, Sabadell Bank & Trust and Breakers Hotel, as well as West Palm Beach’s City Place, Kravis Center for the Performing Arts Fountain and MorseLife Building.

The Palm Beaches Light It Up Blue participants join a list of nearly 2,000 iconic structures, buildings and landmarks in more than 220 U.S. cities and 28 countries on six continents around the world that will shine a bright light on autism as a growing public health crisis. The Empire State Building in NYC, the Aspen Ski Mountain in Colorado, Niagara Falls in Canada, Christ the Redeemer Statue in Brazil, the Sydney Opera House in Australia and even the International Space Station all will join Autism Speaks in support of the millions of families affected by autism.

Throughout the month of April family-friendly events and activities, including the Royal Park Bridge lighting, will be held in honor of the individuals, their family and their friends who are affected by autism.
