The West Palm Beach German community is helping to make this an authentic evening with the help of Herr Manfred Bung, former piano tuner for Palm Beach Atlantic. Also helping with German pronunciation is the Rev. Shirley Saunders of First Presbyterian Church, West Palm Beach. Rev. Saunders is the daughter of Esther and Walter Schleevoight, German immigrants and also members of First Presbyterian Church. The organist for the church, Robert Glover, is the PBA staff accompanist and diction coach for this event.

The Liederabend class has studied the International Phonetic Alphabet and has translated all songs literally in order to give an evening of dramatic interpretation of the works of composers, including female composers Clara Wieck Schumann and Fanny Hensel Mendelssohn. Also featured will be songs on women’s themes including Schubert’s “Die junge Nonne (The Young Nun)” and “Gretchen am Spinnrade (Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel).” Robert Schumann’s cycle “Frauenliebe und Leben (Women’s Life and Love)” also will be interpreted by the talented group of young sopranos.
