A group of future business leaders from a college in Austria made the most of their four days at Palm Beach Atlantic University this week.

In addition to attending daily lectures, the 18 executive MBA students and their instructor from the Institut für Management in Salzburg traveled off campus to visit local businesses. They also met community and business leaders during a Rotary Club meeting.

Their final company visit, which took place today, included a tour and lunch at The Breakers in Palm Beach.

This is the second time PBA has hosted the Intercultural Exchange Seminar. In 2012, 17 graduate business students from Salzburg came to PBA.

Following that trip, “the students gave us very good feedback,” said Wolfgang Reiger, managing director of the institute. He noted that this is the first time that the institute has sent students to the same location twice.

Like last time, this year’s students went on site visits to Rybovich, The Weitz Company and Templeton & Company. The current group also toured Arrow Consulting and Florida Crystals.

The group’s on-campus experience included living in residence halls, dining in the cafeteria and attending classroom lectures. Dr. David Smith, professor of management at PBA, was one of the primary instructors for the seminar.

MBA student Ralf Snyders said he considered coming to PBA with the group two years ago but instead decided to wait. “I thought this would be a good last seminar before graduation,” he said.

Snyders works in Germany for an international corporation and said his only previous visit to the United States was to New York City several years ago.

His employer has offices in the Northeast, he said. “I hope I can come back and visit our facility there,” he said.

Dr. Leslie Turner, dean of the Rinker School of Business, is looking ahead as well.

“It was a pleasure to host this group and to show them a sampling of business, tourism and fun in Palm Beach County,” he said. “They have invited us to plan a trip to Salzburg with a group of our students, and we are considering it for a future trip.”
