Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Gregory School of Pharmacy will present “Prescription for Health,” a free event to assist and educate the community, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Cultural Plaza near the city hall annex in downtown Lake Worth.
Pharmacy students, pharmacists and healthcare providers will offer a variety of free services, including diabetes screenings, blood pressure readings, cholesterol education and medication counseling. Also, representatives from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand from noon to 4 p.m. to collect and dispose of unwanted medications.
Attendees can visit 23 health-related booths offering information on such topics as immunization, smoking cessation, breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, asthma/COPD and poison prevention and children’s health.
In addition, CVS will offer flu shots for $29.99, and cash and credit cards will be accepted. Those enrolled in Medicare B will receive free flu shots with photo I.D. and Medicare card. Paperwork will be provided to self-insured customers that can be mailed to their private insurance companies for reimbursement.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation provided a $7,000 grant to support the annual health fair. Other sponsors include CVS, Walgreens and Publix.
Several student pharmacy organizations will participate in the event, including the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
