Frontwave New Music Festival to Showcase Original Works

The Frontwave New Music Festival at Palm Beach Atlantic University will be held March 22-24 in Vera Lea Rinker Hall, 326 Acacia Road, West Palm Beach. The festival premieres new works by guest composers and performers, in addition to pieces composed within the last decade.

Festival highlights include a chamber music concert by guest and faculty composers, and a concert of music by student composers. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students, and are available in advance and at the door. For information, contact Ticket Central at 561-803-2970 or ticketcentral@pba.edu.

♦   This year’s festival opens Thursday, March 22, with Piano Duo Gastesi-Bezerra performing contemporary piano music, including the premiere of their latest commissioned work, Structure in C, by Ivan Elezovic. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen K. Persson Recital Hall in Vera Lea Rinker Hall.

Guest composer Shawn E. Okpebholo of Wheaton University will perform at the Frontwave New Music Festival at Palm Beach Atlantic University. PBA is a private, accredited, Christ-centered college located in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.

♦   On Friday, March 23, guest composer Shawn E. Okpebholo of Wheaton University will perform, as well as PBA faculty composers and others. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen K. Persson Recital Hall in Vera Lea Rinker Hall.

♦   On Saturday, March 24, premiere performances of PBA student works will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Helen K. Persson Recital Hall in Vera Lea Rinker Hall.

♦   The final concert on Saturday, March 24, is programmed exclusively with electroacoustic music and pieces that feature multimedia and experimental music technology. The 7:30 p.m. concert will be in Room 335 of Vera Lea Rinker Hall.

The festival is coordinated by Tim Thompson, associate professor of music, who pairs guest composers with professional musicians to present the best of new music.
