Family Weekend to Include Service Project, Games, Bake-Off

Several lucky Palm Beach Atlantic University students will enjoy a taste of home when moms (and dads) go head-to-head in a bake-off during Family Weekend, which begins Thursday, Oct. 11, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 14.

Family Weekend 2012 also will include a family walk/run, laser tag, a family Nintendo Wii competition, soccer and volleyball games and performances of the Shakespeare play As You Like It. Family Weekend registration will be held Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Lassiter Student Center. Registrations received prior to Monday, Oct. 8, will be entered into a drawing for hotel gift certificates. The drawing will be held at the President’s Brunch on Saturday, Oct. 13.

♦   Families can cheer the Lady Sailfish to victory as the volleyball team takes on St. Thomas University at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation. Information is available at www.pbasailfish.com.

♦   A coffee house and mom bake-off will be held at 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Lassiter Student Center. Dads, too, are eligible to share a favorite family recipe in this fun competition.

Palm Beach Atlantic University families participate in the Panera Bread Family Fun Walk/Run during Family Weekend 2011. Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) is a private, accredited, Christ-centered college located in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.♦   A family Workship project will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12. Families will meet at the Lassiter Student Center and then travel to the Lourdes Noreen-McKeen retirement community to volunteer.

♦   Evening with the Artists, a showcase of student artwork with live music and refreshments, will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Einstein Bros. Bagels and the Warren Library.

♦   The Panera Bread Family Fun Walk/Run begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, along the Intracoastal Waterway on Flagler Drive. Breakfast bites will be served compliments of Panera Bread.

♦   University President William M.B. Fleming Jr. will present the State of the University address at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the DeSantis Family Chapel. Afterward, President Fleming and the Parents Council will host the President’s Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Weyenberg Center on the second floor of the Lassiter Student Center.

♦   The women’s soccer team will take on the University of Tampa at noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at Magic Jack Field. Information is available at www.pbasailfish.com.

♦   A laser tag competition will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation. The entire family is welcome to participate.

♦   At 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, the School of Nursing will hold a commitment ceremony in the DeSantis Family Chapel. During this ceremony, upper division nursing students make a commitment to the profession. A reception will follow in Oceanview Hall.

♦   The Family Nintendo Wii Competition begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Weyenberg Center on the second floor of the Lassiter Student Center. Prizes will be awarded.

♦   A Showcase of Dance featuring student-choreographed pieces will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, in Vera Lea Rinker Hall. For ticket information, visit www.pba.edu/performances.

♦   Throughout the weekend, the PBA Theatre Department will perform Shakespeare’s As You Like It at the University’s Fern Street Theatre. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Seating is limited. For information, visit www.pba.edu/performances.
