Bob Triplett, associate librarian and learning resources consultant with the Warren Library; Dr. Patrick Heyman, associate professor of nursing and associate dean of the School of Nursing; and students Holly Nelson and Kylene Hill were the latest members of the PBA community to be recognized for demonstrating the University’s theme for this academic year, “Engagement Empowers.” The honorees each received clear Lucite paperweights bearing that theme.

“What we’re striving for is a mindset and a spirit of unity where people step forward, strive for excellence and exhibit Christian love,” President Fleming said.

Triplett did just that when he led a recent effort to promote the library’s new mobile-friendly web page (http://library.pba.edu/mobile), which debuted the first week of March, President Fleming said. Triplett sent announcements to faculty and encouraged them to share the news with their students.

“People have noticed,” President Fleming said.

Triplett said the site has been well received by faculty and students. A few of the comments he received by email from faculty included: “Students will love this,” and “This is fantastic! I just bookmarked in my phone and will share with my rotation students.”

President Fleming said Dr. Heyman was chosen not for a single action or activity, but for “how often (University Provost) Dr. (Joseph A.) Kloba and I and others hear from students and parents about your extra-mile efforts with the nursing students.”

Dr. Heyman joined the School of Nursing faculty in 2003. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Palm Beach Atlantic and his master’s and doctorate from the University of Florida.

Nelson and Hill were honored for their “outstanding leadership” of the University’s Relay for Life event in March, President Fleming said. The event raised more than $7,000 for the American Cancer Society, nearly double the amount raised last year, the students said.

“Thank you or the way you have exhibited PBA core values to our community partner,” President Fleming said.

Nelson is a senior majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. Hill, who is majoring in medicinal and biological chemistry, plans to start pharmacy school at PBA in the fall.
