Last fall, Palm Beach Atlantic University senior Timeelah Adamson approached University President William M.B. Fleming Jr. about having an appreciation breakfast for employees of the National Management Resources Corp. team, who provide maintenance services at PBA’s main campus.

With his blessing, she and other students raised money for the breakfast by holding two bake sales on campus. The breakfast took place Dec. 8 in the Weyenberg Center.

Recently President Fleming recognized Adamson, a voice performance major, as one of three members of the PBA community who have demonstrated the University’s theme for this academic year, “Engagement Empowers.” The honorees each received clear Lucite paperweights bearing that theme.

During a surprise awards presentation, President Fleming told those in attendance that he had a conversation with members of the executive leadership of National during a conference. “I heard a great story of how well the National breakfast went,” President Fleming said.

Also recognized was senior Ashley Dolberry, the second Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish women’s basketball player to top the 1,000-point plateau in program history.

The current all-time scoring record of 1,127 points is held by Hall of Fame Class of 2010 inductee Marjorie "Jo-Jo" Vital-Herne.
Dolberry is majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-health professional preparation. She has a cumulative grade point average of 3.96 and will attend University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston this fall.

“We congratulate you on being the epitome of a scholar-athlete,” President Fleming said. “You reflect all that is good about Sailfish Athletics.”

Chapel Office assistant Jeanny Alexandre was the third recipient of the Engagement Empowers award. President Fleming described Alexandre as a “culture shaper” through her leadership of the chapel praise and worship team of more than 30 students.

“When students are a part of that, they are engaged, which translates into a full PBA experience,” he said.
