On Wednesday (2/20), senior forward Ashley Dolberry scored 23 points to become the Palm Beach Atlantic all-time leading scorer. Earlier in the day, Dolberry was named to the Capital One Division II Academic All-America second-team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be nominated for the 15-member team, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of at least a 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Dolberry, a biology major, carries a 3.96 G.P.A. and will pursue dentistry school after graduation. She was the only player from a Florida institution to receive Academic All-America honors.
On the court, Dolberry -- the team's leading scorer and rebounder this season -- surpassed the previous points record of 1,127 held by PBA Hall-of-Famer Jo Jo Vital-Herne, Class of '02.
The 5-foot-10 native of Plano, Texas, becomes just the second Palm Beach Atlantic student-athlete in the NCAA era to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America team. Men's soccer player Kenny Hogg also received second-team honors for the 2012 season.
